A Sunny Day for a Bright Future for College Sport!
On 24 June we celebrated our cricket achievements and unveiled exciting future plans during a special event at the College XI vs MCC match. The event, attended by the MCC cricket team, and various members our community, highlighted our commitment to promoting cricket and enhancing wider sports facilities. The event came on the back of our U12A boys’ cricket team clinching the Hertfordshire County Cup in a nail-biting final against Watford Boys Grammar School, showcasing remarkable teamwork and determination. In his speech, the College Headmaster Mr. Maguire praised the outstanding performance of all our cricket teams this season.
The College's cricket programme has earned a spot in the Cricketer Schools Guide 2025 as one of the top 100 senior and top 50 prep schools for cricket. This recognition builds on the College's impressive history of hosting ICC matches and international tours to Barbados, Sri Lanka, Saint Lucia, and South Africa.
The Head went on to articulate that the new ‘Century in the Making’ campaign aims to raise £1.5M by 2028/29 (with an aspiration for a further sum of £500,000 to develop the site infrastructure). This campaign aims to add a new double-storey wing to the Doggart Pavilion, improve facilities, and create a versatile area for OS and community events. Mr Maguire explained that as we continue to progress our wider sports strategy, we are also developing plans for the creation of a second sports hall. This new facility will not only better accommodate our school but also cater to the growing interest in a broader range of sports.
The new sports centre is designed to support College sports while also operating as a dual-use, commercially run facility. Through public memberships, space hire, and wider partnerships, it will generate sustainable income to fund its operations and reduce reliance on fee income. This approach allows us to broaden access to outstanding facilities for local families, clubs, and schools, extending the impact of the College far beyond our immediate community. There will also be opportunities for individuals and organisations to partner with us. Whether through naming rights, sponsorship, or corporate collaborations, these partnerships will help shape the next chapter of sport at Bishop’s Stortford College.
The sun-drenched event concluded with a toast to the bright and promising future of College sport, reflecting on the achievements of the past year and looking forward to the centennial celebrations in the new facilities. Stay tuned to hear more about these developing projects!
