Welcome to the Old Stortfordian Society Page

Welcome from OS President 2024-25 Nick Reynolds (HH, 08-12)

It is with great enthusiasm that I step into the role of President of the Old Stortfordian’s Society, a position I am honoured to take since being first elected to the Committee a few years ago. I am eager to build upon the great work completed by my predecessors, but also hope to bring a fresh perspective of my own.

This year, we are committed to deepening our collaboration with the Development Office, aiming to enhance our engagement through a variety of events and initiatives following on from our successful change of rules at the recent AGM. Beyond the typical events on offer, we are keen to leverage the vast experiences of our alumni to offer career support and mentorship opportunities for current students and other OS.

I am looking forward to connecting with each of you, whether at our upcoming events as detailed through the Stortfordian Foundation, or through your invaluable participation as volunteers. Whether it's helping organise events or providing career guidance, your involvement is crucial.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly via email if you can contribute your time and skills. Together, we can make a significant impact.

Warm regards,

Nick Reynolds

New OS Society Rules 2024

Over the past thirteen years the College Development Office has implemented a broad ranging communications and events programme which previously used to be supported by the OS Committee. As a result, what we do as a committee needs to change as we wish to work closer with the School Development Office to support their initiatives but also work in other areas where we both want to offer more opportunities to all our members.

With this in mind, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in May 2023 by Past President Chris Forster and myself on behalf of the OS, and School Head Kathy Crewe-Read, which set out the direction of travel to make all this possible, and who would do what to make it happen! With the MoU in place, your committee worked on refreshing the OS Rules over the summer and autumn to enable this new way of working - around 10 faces to face and online meetings.

The Headlines of the new rules:

  1. The Leadership Team is defined in Rule 8 as President, President – Elect, Immediate Past President, Treasurer and Secretary
  2. Rule 9 shows the new committee structure, and importantly the 6 Officers are now 5 Network Leaders, who will lead volunteers in various activities.
  3. Rule 10 enables a separate schedule of Role Descriptions, also viewable on the link below
  4. Rule 11 sets out the process for elections to the above roles which will be facilitated by the school. Members can be 4 years in role, and can take another role afterwards for a further 4 years if desired
  5. Finance gets a full treatment in Rule 18
  6. Quorum at an AGM is 15 and for rule changes 20 (Rules 25 and 30 respectively)

New Rules were voted on and ratified at the AGM in March 2024 - The detail is included in the documents below, but the headlines are that we aim to create new volunteer ‘Networks’ in the fields of communications, sports, mentoring and careers, events and fundraising.
