Paul ‘Bash’ Bashford – A Stortfordian Legend
For nearly four decades, Paul Bashford (GH,SH, 77-86), Staff, 87-)—known to generations simply as Bash—has been the beating heart of the Stortfordian community. Whether greeting families in the School Shop or cheering from the sidelines of Witherden Field, Bash has been a constant, comforting presence whose warmth and wisdom have touched countless lives.
To speak with Bash is to be seen, heard, and remembered. A living encyclopaedia of names and stories, once you’ve met him, you’re never forgotten. His genuine interest in every student, parent, and colleague has made him more than a staff member—he’s become a cherished friend, a mentor, and a symbol of everything the College stands for.
From helping wide-eyed new students into their first uniforms to supporting future sporting stars on the rugby and cricket pitches, Bash has welcomed generations into the Stortfordian family with open arms. His dedication to the College, his humility, and his unwavering love of sport have left an indelible mark on all who’ve had the privilege to know him.
In honour of his extraordinary service and spirit, the College are proud to dedicate Bashford Pitch at Witherden Field—a place where Bash has spent countless hours nurturing talent and inspiring excellence. It stands as a lasting tribute to a man whose legacy will live on in every match played, every cheer shouted, and every young athlete who dares to dream.
Thank you, Bash, for everything. You are, and always will be, a true legend of Stortfordian spirit.
