OS Paul Bamlett (AH, 77-79) shares details of upcoming stage performance:
My name is Paul Bamlett , I attended Bishops Stortford College between 1977 and 1979 . I was in Alliot House and my housemaster was the wonderful Geoff Timm. I had previously been a boarder and chorister at Durham Cathedral Chorister School so the ethos of the College was familiar to me. I sang in the school choir and appeared in two productions in the Leo Price (A Penny for a Song and The Life of Galileo. I subsequently achieved a degree in English and Drama and a Postgraduate qualification in Dramatherapy.
My career has largely revolved around the use of the arts, particularly theatre ,to enhance the lives of people with disabilities and vulnerable people. I have worked in schools , prisons , drug and alcohol rehabilitation and many other settings.
My path took me back to the school when I was Artistic Director of Actability Inclusive Theatre Company in the early 2000s .We brought our show Down to Earth to the Leo Price and also ran a workshop on Disability and Inclusion.
The most recent project I have been involved in is based around a new novel by PS Lynch entitled A Mind Prone to Evil. The novel revolves around the last year in the life of Hermann Goerring ,Hitlers right hand man and Reichsmarshall responsible for the air force during World War 2. The novel focuses on Goerring’s theft of art from Jewish families across Europe and his involvement in the administration of the Holocaust.
We recently launched at Heffers Bookshop in Cambridge and Harts Bookshop in Saffron Walden as well as Birchwood High School, St Marys Catholic School and Hockerill School in Bishops Stortford.
From this book PS Lynch has written a one performer play called Through a Judas Window which will go into the Etcetera Theatre in Camden on March 5th/6th and 7th 2026. I myself will be playing 3 characters in this show and am looking forward to staging the piece which is immersive in nature with projection and a specially composed musical soundtrack. We have established a GoFundMe page to enable us to purchase the props and costumes we need. If people would like to donate we would be extremely grateful, donor's names will be included in our programme.
Hope to welcome some fellow OS along to the theatre in March next year.
