NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN THAT The Annual General Meeting of The Old Stortfordian Society will be held on Tuesday, 19  March 2024 at 6.30pm in The Rotunda, FLT, Bishop’s Stortford College

Old Stortfordians are warmly invited to attend the AGM, please confirm attendance & review the AGM Agenda here.

New OS Society Rules 2024 - Message from OS President 2023-24 Steve Ross (GH, SHa, 65-72)

Over the past thirteen years the College Development Office has implemented a broad ranging communications and events programme which previously used to be supported by the OS Committee. As a result, what we do as a committee needs to change as we wish to work closer with the School Development Office to support their initiatives but also work in other areas where we both want to offer more opportunities to all our members.

With this in mind, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in May 2023 by Past President Chris Forster and myself on behalf of the OS, and School Head Kathy Crewe-Read, which set out the direction of travel to make all this possible, and who would do what to make it happen! With the MoU in place, your committee worked on refreshing the OS Rules over the summer and autumn to enable this new way of working - around 10 faces to face and online meetings.

These new rules are out for consultation until the end of February 2024 and voted on at the AGM – we do hope you feel able to support them. I do hope to see many of you there, but if you can’t make it, do please let us know how you wish to vote by sending us an email to osscommittee@gmail.com. The detail is included within the documents below, but the headlines are that we aim to create new volunteer ‘Networks’ in the fields of communications, sports, mentoring and careers, events and fundraising.

Consultation on Proposed New Rules, to be voted on at the AGM on March 19th, commencing at 6.30pm in the Rotunda, Ferguson Lecture Building.

The Headlines:

  • The Leadership Team is defined in Rule 8 as President, President – Elect, Immediate Past President, Treasurer and Secretary
  • Rule 9 shows the new committee structure, and importantly the 6 Officers are now 5 Network Leaders, who will lead volunteers in various activities.
  • Rule 10 enables a separate schedule of Role Descriptions, also viewable on the link below
  • Rule 11 sets out the process for elections to the above roles which will be facilitated by the school. Members can be 4 years in role, and can take another role afterwards for a further 4 years if desired
  • Finance gets a full treatment in Rule 18
  • Quorum at an AGM is 15 and for rule changes 20 (Rules 25 and 30 respectively)
