The autumn half term again gave the OS Swimming Club the opportunity to invite teams from the locality and beyond to the annual water polo tournament at the College pool on October 15th. We were delighted to welcome, University of Cambridge, Enfield and two teams from Colchester, having ourselves a full squad which included Ashley Bygraves, Head of Aquatics at the College.

Although we didn’t win a match, it was probably the best performance in many years as we came within a goal of drawing against two very strong swimming teams, University of Cambridge (5-6) and Colchester 1st Team (6-7). We also scored more goals than in recent years, in fact one more than the University of Cambridge who came second overall. The results and table below show the winners as Enfield with a mighty 20 goal difference, the crunch game being played last against Colchester 1st team where they scored 8 goals to 2 in a hard fought game.

So, Enfield won the Tisbury trophy, followed by the University of Cambridge who just beat Colchester 1st team on goal difference – all three teams also received a trophy to keep. The top goal scorer plaque went to an Enfield player and best goal keeper, as judged by the officials, was also presented with a suitably engraved plaque. The cleanest side, as judged by the fewest number of major fouls against their players, was the University of Cambridge who were presented with a trophy.

The Wilshire trophy, the handicapped swimming competition for the older Old Stortfordian, was won by Steve Ross, with Nick Blaxill runner up

Many thanks to the School for allowing the use of their fantastic facilities, and also all the School’s Development team (Britt, Jennifer and Wendy) who were a huge help in the run up to and during the event. Lastly, thanks to Nick Reynolds who was the driving force in getting the event off the ground.

Played:

Nick Reynolds (HH, 08-12)
Nick Blaxill (Sha, 69-74)
Kirill Stockmeier (Friend of the OSSC)
Toby Brown (WH,HH, 11-20)
Ashley Bygraves (Head of Aquatics, Bishop's Stortford College)
Dan Mason-Smith (PP,MJH,HH, 06-20)
Ben Porteous (GH,HH,09-20)
Andrew Bryce (Friend of the OSSC)
Bruno Maagalhaes (Friend of the OSSC)
Mark Jarrett (MJH, HH 79-87)
