OS founded City String Ensemble sparkles at Bridgerton Season 2 Premier
College Music Scholar OS Sophie Poteratchi (WH,BH, 03-10) has built on strong musical foundations to complete prestigious music qualifications and form a hugely successful London based string ensemble.
Studying violin, piano & percussion as a College music Scholar Sophie performed in numerous school concerts and assemblies and led the orchestra/string orchestra on tours in Europe. During her Upper 6th also sharing the important role of joint Head of House music for Benson House with OS Charli Aitchison (GH,BH,99-10) who has gone on to become global pop superstar Charli XCX.
Sophie expertly juggled school life with attending Junior Guildhall School of Music every Saturday from the age of 11 and graduated from Guildhall School of Music & Drama with BMus (Hons) and MMus studying violin on the prestigious undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
Sophie officially founded City String Ensemble in 2016/2017 shortly after graduating from music conservatoire and followed the successful establishment of the London Ensemble by moving to LA (on a one-way ticket) in 2017, where she subsequently setup a Los Angeles branch of City String Ensemble. The positively thriving LA ensemble is currently being managed remotely by Sophie as she has returned to be based in London for the time being.
City String Ensemble is a versatile string ensemble based in London. Originally formed at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, CSE has gone on to grow from a highly sought-after string quartet to a full- scale string orchestra and can be seen regularly performing multiple programmes of “candlelight concerts” across London, as well as recording and releasing their very own classical twists on popular songs in the form of their albums released on music streaming platforms.
Since 2016, they have been performing across London and the UK, establishing themselves as the ensemble of choice for many award ceremonies, celebrity parties and special events. Most notably, CSE recently performed at the world premiere of Bridgerton Season 2 in London.
As a group of classically-trained string musicians, CSE have reimagined some of their favourite and most iconic pop songs, challenging the preconceptions of what classical musicians and classical instruments are capable of. They released their debut EP, “Twenty Twenty,” in 2020 before following up with their second EP, “Throwback…to the Millennium” in 2021. Their most recent release in 2022, “Best of Anime,” is a collection of some of the most famous anime opening songs and was inspired by their sold-out run of anime concerts last year.
