Memorial Hall Organ benefit concert series gets underway in Christmassy splendour!

The Memorial Hall was alive with the joyous sounds of the hugely talented Gents of St John’s on Saturday 10th December. Festively decorated and surrounded by twinkling candles, the Mem Hall stage welcomed ten members of the professional vocal ensemble made up of the choral and organ scholars of the Choir of St John’s Choir, Cambridge.

The concert opened with the performance of traditional carols and after the interval the audience was enormously entertained by upbeat renditions of festive favourites, all with their very own Gents of St John’s twists within the arrangements. Their catchy version of ‘Let it snow’ working a little too well as Bishop’s Stortford awoke on Monday 13th December under a thick blanket of snow. Please click here to enjoy it.

The encore was hearty, spirits amongst the audience were high and the applause was never ending as the concert came to a close. England’s performance in the World Cup far from everyone’s mind as the Christmas spirt and the enjoyment of such outstandingly gifted singers performing in such cherished surroundings flowed through the audience and out of the Mem Hall doors as everyone headed home in the frosty conditions.

We are incredibly grateful to all of those who supported the concert, in turn, supporting the fundraising campaign to restore our heritage Memorial Hall Organ. Three further concerts in the Memorial Hall Organ benefit series will be happening next term – a warm invitation to attend is extended to all.
