Independent School Parent Magazine highlights the journey of OS Charlotte Smith (AH,12-16) into her first graduate role and deems her one to watch amogst her generation.

Leaving the College in 2016 Charlotte could never have imagined the world that would greet her as she started her career in Commercial Marketing in September 2020.

First developing a real interest in business and marketing during her economics A-Level studies, Charlotte chose to study for a Management BSc Degree at the University of Nottingham. Choosing this degree due to the breadth and depth of topics and the mix of  both theoretical and practical examples. Charlotte was also attracted to the fact that she could choose the majority of my modules in her second and final year meaning that she could tailor the course to facilitate her aspirations to persue a career in marketing.

Graduating from Nottingham with a first-class degree in June 2019 Charlotte secured a place on Centrica’s Commercial Marketing Graduate Scheme, commencing in September 2020. During the year before starting the scheme she undertook marketing work experience in different sectors as well as enjoying a small amount of traveling before the pandemic hit.

Commencing a career during the grips of a global pandemic and working from home as part of a team that it was impossible to meet with in person is far from the ideal scenario. However, Charlotte is looking postively forwards to spending the next 18 months rotating between placements within different areas of marketing within Centrica and their different brands. Always keen to enhance her passion for marketing Charlotte is keen to continuously develop her skills and knowledge throughout these placements.

A second generation Old Stortfordian, Charlotte follows in the footsteps of her Father, Grahame Smith (MJH,HH,72-82), Uncle, Phil Smith (MJH,HH, 74-84) and Sister, Emily Smith (PP,WH,AH, 00-14).

We wish Charlotte every success in her marketing career and agree with P56 of Independent School Magazine that Charlotte is most certainly 'one to watch' in the future!
