OS dominates podium in GT Championship

OS Jacob Tofts (SuH,20-22) is leading his category at the halfway stage of the Porsche Sprint Challenge GB competition in his debut season racing GT cars.

Jacob competes for the Graves Motorsport team and has won four races and achieved seven podium places, sitting nine points clear of his second place opponent.

Having left the College in 2022 and about the enter the final year of his automotive engineering degree at Loughborough University, Jacob hopes to become a professional racing driver after graduation.

The Bishop's Stortford Independent newspaper details Jacob's competition participation:

'Tofts competes in a Porsche Cayman GT4 RS while there are also categories featuring the Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport. The GT4 RS is effectively an upgraded Cayman, with a bigger engine, better suspension and slightly more aerodynamics.

The latest races took place at Croft where he cemented the lead he gained at Oulton Park last month.

In a challenging and wet opening race, Tofts started second in class but was knocked off the track on the first lap, dropping to 10th overall and fourth in class. Despite this he drove through the field to win in class and finish fourth overall, setting lap times on par with the race leaders.

He continued his strong performance by winning the second race and securing runners-up spot in the third.

“The championship is so close, it’s all about consistency,” said Tofts, who is studying automotive engineering at Loughborough University and dreams of becoming a professional racing driver. “That was our focus going into the round.

“I would have loved to win all three races and I think I could have, but it’s a percentages game and sometimes it’s important to have a mature head!”

The next round takes place at Donington Park on the weekend of August 24-25 with the Sunday races being shown live on ITV4 as part of the channel’s British Touring Car Championship coverage.

All at the College are hugely proud of Jacob's achievements and will watch his career with great interest and pride!
