Old Stortfordian Golf Society vs BSC

5th October 2023

The second annual golf match between the Old Stortfordians and the College took place on 5th October in glorious conditions at Bishop’s Stortford Golf Club. The format was 4 games of fourball betterball matchplay.

The teams lined up as follows (OS first):

Stewart Smith (RPH, 96-01) and Matthew Precious (NH, HH, 12-20)

James Greenall (GH, AH,65-74) and Ian Clark (Guest)
vs
Charlie G  and Alex W

Simon Lipscombe (HH,90-95 & Staff ) and Robert Baker (GH, SH, 82-89)
vs
Fenton C and Jensen C

Keith Turner (GH, HH, 59-66) and Alan Oakley (HH, SH. 63-66)
vs
 Lilly N and Harriet B

Whilst the OS side managed to gain 1½ points from the top two matches the College were victorious in the remaining two games resulting in a 2½ - 1½ victory for the youngsters.

All of the matches were played in very good spirit and enjoyed by all concerned. The raw golfing talent displayed by the youngsters, in particular Alex C-B and Stanley P who will both be strong candidates for our Halford Hewitt team when they leave school, was a joy to behold and we look forward to next year’s match.

My thanks go to Bishop’s Stortford Golf Club for their hospitality in hosting the event,  Bishop’s Stortford College for allowing the pupils to play and Simon Lipscombe for organising the College team.  Also a big thank you to my friend Ian Clark who substituted at the last minute following the late withdrawal of one of our players.
